JOHN LEAHY
Second Euphonium

Instrument:
Besson Prestige BE2051
Mouthpiece:
Dennis Wick SM4
Music Heroes:
Fritz Kaenzig, Arnold Jacobs, Brian Bowman, Benjamin Pierce,  Chicago Symphony

John started first on trumpet at nine years old. In seventh grade his band director pleaded for someone to try out playing the 'baritone' and he volunteered without much thought. Upon trying it out, he quickly fell in love with the instrument, its range, and its place as a prominent tenor voice in concert bands. He has played the euphonium ever since.

John attended the University of Michigan, studying with Fritz Kaenzig, where he split his time between Music, Education, and Computer Science. Since graduating John has taken technology roles during the day and continues to play euphonium, including several seasons with the Wheaton Municipal Band. After a few years of occasionally playing with the Chicago Brass Band, this is John's first complete year as a regular member and is thrilled to be playing with so many great musicians and great people.
