Originally from Northbrook, Illinois, Guy began playing trumpet at the age of nine and studied with Charlie Geyer and Adolph “Bud” Herseth. While living in Illinois, Guy held principal trumpet positions with Northbrook Symphony Orchestra, West Suburban Symphony, Highland Park Apple Tree Theatre, and many other groups.

Guy was a founding member of both the Illinois and Chicago Brass Bands. He played more than ten years with the six-time National Champion Illinois Brass Band, serving as principal much of the time. He also played principal and e-flat soprano cornet with the 2004 National Champion Chicago Brass Band and performed with the CBB Players, the brass band’s award-winning 10-piece brass ensemble. In 2005 he participated in the World Brass Band Competition in The Netherlands with CBB. In July 2020 Guy traveled with CBB to New Zealand, performing in concerts and competitions.

Guy is currently a freelance trumpeter in the San Francisco Bay Area, performing with the Santa Cruz Symphony, Santa Cruz Nutcracker Ballet Orchestra, Cambrian Symphony, San Jose Lyric Theater, Palo Alto Philharmonic, San Francisco Wind Ensemble, musical theater groups, and more. Guy is an electrical engineer, and he and his wife, Laura, live in Los Gatos, California, with their six cats.
