Colby Fahrenbacher is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he received his Master's of Music Degree in 2011 and his Bachelor's of Music Degree in 2009. While at the University of Illinois, Colby was the Tuba-Euphonium Studio Teaching Assistant, where he taught private lessons, taught the tuba-euphonium methods class, and performed with the graduate brass quintet.
While a student of Professor Mark Moore, Colby was selected as a winner of the 2011 University of Illinois Concerto Competition and received 1st place at the 2011 Midwest Regional Tuba-Euphonium Conference Tuba Solo Artist Competition at Central Michigan University. Previously, he received 3rd place at the 2010 and 2011 Falcone Festival Tuba Solo Artist Competitions, was a finalist at the 2010 International Tuba-Euphonium Conference Quartet Competition, and was a semi-finalist at the 2010 International Tuba-Euphonium Conference Solo Tuba Competition.
Colby has performed solos with the University of Illinois Symphony Orchestra, the 2011 Falcone Festival Band, the Wheaton Municipal Band, the Central Michigan University Wind Ensemble, and the University of Illinois Harding Band.
Colby has attended the 2010 Rafael Mendez Brass Institute, the 2010 Bar Harbor Brass Week, and the 2011 Bar Harbor Brass Week. During the summer of 2011, he was the tuba and euphonium instructor for session 3 of the Illinois Summer Youth Music camp. Colby is also a Brass Repair Technician at Fix This! Musical Instrument Repair.
Colby is principal tuba with the Danville Symphony Orchestra, an associate member of The Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and member of the Chicago Brass Band. He is a substitute tuba for the Peoria and Milwaukee Symphony Orchestras. He has performed with many ensembles, including the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra, the Prairie Ensemble, the Classical Symphony Orchestra, and the Wheaton Municipal Band. He is also a member of the Civic Musicorp Brass Quintet, the Aduro Brass Quintet and the Phonatopia Tuba-Euphonium Quartet.
